‘Bestselling’ carbon monoxide alarm does not work

-

 A “bestselling” carbon monoxide alarm sold on Amazon does not work, tests have found, prompting the site to pull the device from sale.

Which? tested four alarms on sale through the shopping site and found they consistently failed to sound when the gas was present in the air.

The failure meant the devices could allow a potentially lethal build-up of carbon monoxide in the home. This is despite all four alarms claiming to meet British safety standards.

One of the alarms – the Topelek GEHS007AW CO alarm, retailing at £14.99, was listed as a bestseller on Amazon. Three other unbranded alarms, made in China and sold through sellers on Amazon and ebay for under £10, also repeatedly failed to work.

Amazon and ebay have now removed the alarms from sale and have also de-listed another 50 lookalike alarms that Which? believes to be identical to the three unbranded alarms and equally as dangerous.
