Thousands of people gathered at Stonehenge to see the sun rise on the longest day of the year yesterday. At 4.52am the appearance of the first flickers of sunlight behind the Heel Stone were greeted with cheers from the 9,500-strong crowd. The solstice is one of the few occasions that English Heritage opens the site to the public. Editorial Comment: Page 19.
