Son-in-law of Pakistan’s ousted premier arrested
The convicted son-in-law of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif was arrested yesterday after coming out of hiding to lead a rally of Pakistan Muslim League supporters.
Muhammad Safdar was last week sentenced in absentia to 12 months in prison over a corruption ruling linked to his family’s purchase of four Park Lane apartments in London.
Sharif was given a ten-year jail term and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, seven years. They deny any wrongdoing and face arrest when they fly into Lahore from London on Friday.
