MPS kick up a stink over filth at Parliament’s door
John Bercow, the Speaker, has pledged to look into MPS’ claims that entrances to the Houses of Parliament “smell of urine and vomit”.
Barry Sheerman, a Labour MP, raised a point of order in the Commons, saying: “Most of our entrances to this great royal palace are filthy with a smell of urine, vomit and dirt and, well I don’t want to go into detail to what you can see at the entrance... Isn’t it about time that somebody did something about this royal palace and access to it?”
Mr Bercow admitted he was “not unconscious of that phenomenon” and would join Mr Sheerman on a walk around the entrances to see if there was anything he could do.
