A car enables old people to stay independent
SIR – Recent letters (July 21) have discussed whether elderly drivers should stay on the road.
I underwent the Institute of Advanced Motorists’ mature driver’s assessment, aged 90, in 2014, and have continued driving up to the present day, remaining accident-free.
I am a carer for my wife, so the use of a vehicle means that we are able to keep our independence. Provided that one is self-aware and honest with oneself, age alone should not debar one from driving.
