 Live from Charlton Park in Wiltshire, the globally renowned festival of world music, Womad, begins tonight and is featuring in a series of Radio 3 broadcasts across the weekend. Tonight’s launch event, presented by Lopa Kothari and Kathryn Tickell, includes punk music from 1920s Poland, performanc­es from Syrian musician Omar Suleyman, Estonian singer Maria Kalkun, and Mozambique’s Wazimbo. Over the next few days there will be further star turns from Camille, Django Django, Gilles Peterson, and Amadou & Mariam.
