Police hunt migrants who sprang from lorry
Police are hunting up to 15 suspected illegal migrants who jumped from a Spanish lorry in a Kent village.
Up to 20 stowaways bolted from the truck in Patrixbourne, near Canterbury, when the driver opened its doors yesterday morning at a fruit and vegetable distribution centre.
Locals reported watching them flee across fields, with two seen running to catch a bus. One witness described them as of eastern European appearance. Police captured four men.
Jim Parmenter, managing director of the distribution centre, Gomez, said he had lost £1million of imported goods that had been contaminated by stowaways in the last five years.
