Countries that want treasures back
♦ Greece: the Elgin Marbles, also known as the Parthenon Sculptures, have been on display in the British Museum since 1817.
♦ Nigeria: the Benin Bronzes. These belonged to the once powerful Benin kingdom, now Nigeria, in west Africa. They were taken by British forces in 1897.
♦ Ethiopia: the Magdala treasures. The V&A is currently exhibiting this collection of royal and religious artefacts that was taken from Ethiopia in 1868. by a British expeditionary force.
