A new Opposition
SIR – An extreme Left-winger, apparently sympathetic to terrorist groups and friendly to Russia, should never have become Leader of the Opposition.
Since Jeremy Corbyn’s election as Labour leader in September 2015, it has suited the Conservatives to give him an easy ride on the grounds that he is politically weak, ineffectual and unelectable. This must change.
Moreover, while Labour MPS alone do not elect the party leader, they possess the constitutional power to remove him as Opposition leader.
Instead of leaving a handful of moderate Jewish MPS to fight Mr Corbyn and his unpleasant acolytes on social media and within the party’s Momentum membership, all non-corbynite Labour MPS, a clear majority, must break free to form a new parliamentary group that will become the official Opposition when Parliament returns next month. The electorate will reward those who put loyalty to their country before party. Philip Duly
