Man is charged over double hammer attack

A man has appeared in court accused of trying to murder a City worker and her mother in a hammer attack in southeast London. Joe Xuereb, 27, is alleged to have tried to kill Ania Gos, a 30-yearold King’s College London graduate, and her 64-year-old mother on Sunday.

Officers were called to Adderley Gardens, Eltham, at 12.10pm. Xuereb, of Greenwich, appeared at Bromley magistrates’ court yesterday charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon, and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Sept 18. The women remain in a critical condition.
