BBC Proms 2018
RADIO 3, 7.30PM Tonight’s Prom features the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer, who founded it as a radical challenger to the statefunded orchestras of communist Hungary. They remain called the Festival Orchestra because, as Fischer recently told this newspaper, “we want to keep the sense that every time we play it’s a special occasion.” They’re performing a programme of Enescu, Bartók and Mahler with soprano Anna Lucia Richter, including Mahler’s
Symphony No 4 in G Major.
