Ryanair customers’ compensation cheques bounce
A NUMBER of compensation cheques paid to Ryanair passengers have been rejected after being issued unsigned.
The airline apologised after “a very small number of cheques” were sent out in July minus a signature. Ryanair said it was an “administrative error”.
The cheques were re-issued with a letter of explanation a month later after passengers began to complain that their compensation for flight delays and cancellations had failed to clear the banks.
Ben Lonsdale wrote on Twitter: “A compensation cheque I received has bounced. I think this is outrageous. The bank said the details provided do not exist... how is this possible with a printed cheque?”
Karen Joyce wrote on Facebook: “Ryanair sent me a cheque for compensation then bounced the cheque... ended up costing me €32 (£29) for the privilege. Shame on you, Ryanair.”
It came after the airline had to cancel flights due to a pilots’ strike in July. The strike by Irish Ryanair pilots left up to 30 flights cancelled, affecting about 5,000 passengers.
Another strike in August by pilots in five European countries left hundreds more flights cancelled.
