Drug-trafficking gangs target small airfields
Britain’s small airfields are vulnerable to traffickers bringing in drugs, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said yesterday, as four men were jailed for one of the largest ever cocaine hauls.
Three of the gang, including a builder from Poole, Dorset, were jailed for 24 years each at Woolwich Crown Court for an “audacious” attempt to smuggle in £41million worth of cocaine on a private jet from Colombia to Farnborough Airport, Hants.
The NCA said criminal gangs targeted smaller airfields because they have weaker customs enforcement than major hubs such as Heathrow.
