Lawyer to pay £18,000 after dismissing nanny

-

A lawyer who sacked his nanny days after discovering she was pregnant has been ordered to pay her £18,000.

An employment tribunal heard that Sylvain Dhennin, a partner at Hogan Lovells, paid Saesi Muslipah a week’s notice and handed her a letter dismissing her, after she told his wife that she was pregnant.

Mr Dhennin claimed she was made redundant because his sons were enrolled at nursery and that the issue had been raised earlier.

The London Employment Tribunal did not believe him, upholding her claims for direct pregnancy discrimination and unfair dismissal.
