Tackling tailgating

SIR – The campaign by Highways England to stop drivers tailgating (report, September 17) misses the point.

The main cause of tailgating is drivers who keep in the outside lane when they don’t need to and hold up the traffic behind them. The campaign should therefore have two aims: to stop drivers tailgating but also to stop drivers hogging a lane they should not be in.
