Soft head for business

- Martin Linstrom

SIR – In the short term, the population needs to get a better handle on using new technologies. However, technology use, monitoring and control, and even maths, reading and writing will all be in decline by 2022.

The report by the World Economic Forum (telegraph.co.uk, September 17) shows how wide of the mark we are in investing in the right long-term skills.

Analytical thinking, creativity, complex problem-solving, emotional intelligence and leadership will be far more important qualities in the future of work. As King’s College London reports that these soft skills have been pushed “to the margins” of education, rapid action is required.
