Four children killed as train hits cargo bike

Four children from a Dutch day care centre were killed yesterday when a train hit their electric cargo bike at a level crossing, police said.

A fifth child and a woman were also critically injured in Oss, 65 miles south-east of Amsterdam, as the children were being transported in a large cargo box at the front of the bike.

Mark Rutte, the Dutch prime minister, posted his condolences on Twitter over a tragedy that has shaken the cycling-mad country.
