As a veteran of eight Ryder Cups, Garcia should have been a shoo-in for 2018. Alas, he had to be a captain’s pick and a dubious one at that. I can understand history, but I cannot understand sentiment, especially when

it comes to precious picks. In a year which saw him play 15 times on the PGA Tour, he missed eight cuts.

Strengths

If he finds his game and the right playing partner, this Ryder Cup will be like riding a bike – you never forget how to do that, do you?

Weaknesses

Sergio is not an easy player to partner. I would be surprised to see him paired with Jon Rahm – he would play well with Mcilroy or Molinari.
