India lifts ban on women in temple

-

India’s supreme court has ruled that one of its holiest Hindu temples must be opened to women.

The Sabarimala temple, in Kerala, had banned women and girls aged 10 to 50 from entering. The precedent could now affect hundreds of temples that currently do not allow women.

Chief Justice Dipak Misra said that “the right to practise religion is available to both men and women”.
