Ashdown: Germans were ‘not all bad’

-

 The British were sold a “terrible lie” that there were no good Germans in order to justify the post-war occupation and “theft” of the country’s industry, according to Paddy Ashdown.

The former Liberal Democrat leader, now a historian of the Second World War, said a number of high-ranking Germans tried to stop Hitler from as early as 1935.

“None of them received any coverage in this country whatsoever, and the reason was that it was uncongenial for Britain and the Western Allies to believe that in this war there had been good Germans,” Ashdown told an audience at the Henley Literary Festival as he launched Nein! Standing Up To Hitler, his new book.
