Maldives president challenges election loss

Abdulla Yameen, the president of the Maldives, filed a petition in the island nation’s supreme court yesterday, challenging his defeat in last’s month election, when Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the joint opposition leader, polled 16.8per cent more votes in a surprise result. He cites rigging of votes and fraudulent ballot papers.
