Nursery carer abused children yet kept job

The Daily Telegraph - - News -

A NURSERY worker who force-fed a toddler until she was sick should not have been allowed to keep working after the abuse was first reported, a judge said.

Judge Jim Tindal said it was “mystifying” that Sarah Pitt continued supervising young children after she treated them “abominably” at Tiblands Nursery School in Whitbourne, Worcs.

Pitt, 40, was spared jail after admitting four counts of child cruelty at Worcester Crown Court as she received a two-year suspended jail sentence, as well as a ban on working with children.

The court heard Pitt forcefed one toddler yogurt until she was sick and left another child to lie in his own urine for hours to “teach him a lesson”. The nursery worker carried out the abuse of several youngsters despite previously being warned about her “abrupt” behaviour.

The court heard how all the children abused by Pitt were under three years old, except for one.

Pitt’s abuse only came to light when a whistleblower raised the alarm. During sentencing, Judge Tindal said: “She will never work with children again.”
