Po­lice sorry for father’s mur­der ar­rest

♦ Po­lice have apol­o­gised to the fam­ily of a man who was wrongly ar­rested for mur­der­ing his son but died of a heart at­tack days af­ter the real killer was jailed.

Fred­die Stacey spent 16 weeks on re­mand in 2004 af­ter be­ing wrongly ac­cused of killing Scott Pritchard.

Karen Tun­more was fi­nally brought to jus­tice ear­lier this month for the at­tack in Sun­der­land. A se­nior Northum­bria Po­lice of­fi­cer apol­o­gised to Mr Stacey’s fam­ily, but they said it was “too lit­tle too late”.
