‘999 failed to stop’ wrong­way M1 death

♦ Three po­lice forces have been crit­i­cised af­ter an elderly mo­torist was al­lowed to drive on the wrong side of mo­tor­ways for 30 miles be­fore killing a van driver.

Michael Lu­ciw, 27, died in 2015 af­ter Al­bert New­man, 87, who had de­men­tia and also died in the crash, drove at speeds of up to 80mph along the M42, A42 and M1 with­out be­ing stopped by po­lice in War­wick­shire, Le­ices­ter­shire and Not­ting­hamshire. All of them were aware of the driver.
