Dozens dead in Uganda after river overflows
At least 34 people have been killed after a rain-swollen river in Uganda burst its banks, sending thick mud and rocks crashing into homes.
Rescue teams were picking through the rubble yesterday looking for survivors and victims of the disaster, which took place in the town of Bukalasi in the eastern district of Bududa on Thursday.
Irene Nakasiita, a Uganda Red Cross spokesman said: “I can confirm 34 people are dead. We have to wait for our assessment to be completed before we can say how many are missing.”
