Jew­ellery bur­glar found asleep with the ev­i­dence

A BUR­GLAR has been jailed for seven years af­ter po­lice caught him asleep on a sofa hug­ging a haul of stolen jew­ellery.

An­thony Fo­ord, 39, of no fixed abode, had raided a home in Folke­stone, Kent, steal­ing the jew­ellery box and 180 items in­clud­ing watches and ear­rings.

Fo­ord raided the home on May 5 this year be­fore mak­ing his es­cape, but de­tec­tives found his DNA on a bot­tle left at the scene.

Of­fi­cers raided a home in Folke­stone three days af­ter the bur­glary on re­ceiv­ing a tip-off that Fo­ord was stay­ing there – and found him hold­ing the jew­ellery box as he slept on the sofa.

Fo­ord de­nied any in­volve­ment in the break-in and told of­fi­cers he couldn’t ex­plain where all the goods had come from.

But a jury found him guilty of bur­glary at Can­ter­bury Crown Court.
