Desert Island Discs is all-time best radio show

Desert Island Discs has been named the greatest radio programme of all time.

The BBC Radio 4 show, in which castaway guests share the soundtrack of their lives, beat programmes such as The Archers and Round the Horne to top a list published in the Radio Times.

It was picked by a panel of industry figures including Cerys Matthews, Justin Webb and Sue Macgregor.

Desert Island Discs has been broadcast since 1942 and is presented by Lauren Laverne. The Archers, the long-running drama, was runner-up.
