Phones in Parliament

SIR – I am appalled to see so many MPS glued to their smartphones in the House of Commons chamber.

If they think phones should be banned in schools, they should also be banned in the Commons. Apart from setting a bad example, it is incredibly discourteous to those engaged in proper debate. How are they going to scrutinise legislation and produce good laws if they are more concerned with their Twitter accounts? Giles Nevill
