Gwynnie is picking up good vibrations

-

What an extraordinary life Gwyneth Paltrow leads. First, she was one of Hollywood’s top actresses. Now she’s a zillionaire entrepreneur promoting spiritual nourishment through sex aids. She’s basically the Dalai Lama of dildos.

The other day, she launched her latest musthave product: a vibrator. Some might think that sounds vulgar, but she’s taken great care to ensure the design is sophisticated and upmarket. Most vibrators, she told an interviewer, “look hypersexualised” and “really phallic”. So she was determined, she said, to create something that looked “a little more intellectual”.

Judging by the photo on Goop, Ms Paltrow’s website, it looks more like a strawberry Mr Whippy, but I freely confess that I’m no expert in these things. At any rate, I like the idea of a vibrator being intellectual.

Perhaps it will be discussed by a panel of leading thinkers on Front Row, or In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg. (“Tom Paulin, tell us… what did you make of the new Goop Doublesided

Wand Vibrator?”)

Still, no doubt it will catch on. Ms Paltrow is always ahead of the curve. In the same interview, we learnt that she was wearing face masks months before they became the norm. She was also, she revealed, “one of the first people that I’d heard of ” to catch Covid.

Where Ms Paltrow leads, the world follows.
