NAFFI ROD

-

I read with interest the letter about the split-cane rod issued to servicemen in the Far East (June issue). I have in my possession a “NAFFI Rod” made by Hardy Bros, Alnwick. It is in seven sections, with fly and spinning application depending on the combination of sections used. My late father kept it in his armoured car while serving with the Grenadier Guards in France and Germany (1944-45). The rod was untouched and remains in full working order.

History does not relate to what extent it saw action in the field but I know my father had success with the gun in Germany because after VE Day he organised shoots for his fellow Guards officers. Captain Lord Richard Percy, bandolier around the waist, is in the centre of the photograph.
