QI have experienced a few issues having the hides from trophies I brought back from Africa tanned. I had a black wildebeest and a red hartebeest sent back to the UK, salted and dried. I have tried an exhaustive list of tanneries in the south-west of England and Scotland, but none are able to help. I wonder if you can?

AAt present, it appears that there are no tanneries in the UK that would be able to accept these two skins. The consensus from the tanners is that they struggle to separate individual customer skins from the large quantity of skins that they process and some only process bovine skins. I have spoken to The British Leather Company in Northampton, which suggests approaching the Institute for Creative Leather Technology at the University of Northampton, which runs a selection of courses and might be interested in having its students tanning these skins for you as part of their coursework. Individual skins are predominately tanned in Italy, at a cost.
