Pheasant dive

The Field - - Letters -

During the recent scorching weather I returned home one evening to hear a disturbance in the swimming pool. On closer inspection, I found three young hen pheasants swimming around and having a high old time. When they saw me, two of them flew off into our adjoining field. The third remained paddling around like a duck. I caught her in the skimming net and released her back with her companions. I did know that pheasants could swim but didn’t think they would do it out of choice. Has anyone else had a similar encounter? Tim Hall-wilson Hanby, Lincolnshire
