The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP -

MUCH is made of the high life enjoyed by the wealthy among the professional footballing ranks.

At the top end of the game, we hear of numbers that blow your mind and create huge distance between the masses and the player. Long term contracts on weekly wages well into six figures are truly another world.

However, for many professional players, there is a very different story. The end of every season leaves many players out of contract, search- ing with uncertainty for their next club.

They do not have money to fall back on, and worse, as the end of the season comes, they know that an injury could prove hugely costly.

It is genuinely tough for lads in those situations.

While the Press paints one picture on a daily basis, there are many who are in this much more difficult boat.

They are tremendously dedicated professionals who fans know and love throughout the Leagues up and down the country. They give their hearts and souls and put their bodies on the line even in these difficult circumstances.

Respect and credit to them all. In the main, they deserve it.
