Daniel Powell to somehow blaze over the crossbar from four yards.

Billy Clarke twice went close for Crawley following swift counter-attacks, first when he lashed a half-volley just over the crossbar and then when he drilled a low shot narrowly wide of the far post.

Crawley started the second half brightly and Nicky Adams fired a deflected angled drive just wide before Clarke had a low long-range shot well-held by keeper Ian McLoughlin.

The Dons regained control but the luckless Lowe dragged another good chance wide and then had a third goal disallowed for offside, while Shaun Williams and Bowditch went close at the death.

Crawley manager Barker had little sympathy for his old pal Lowe, whom he managed at Bury.

Barker said:“I thought Lowey created too many problems for our centrebacks in the first half – I ended up selling him but he’s very clever at what he does.

“Three goals disallowed for offside is pretty good going though - no doubt he’ll ring me and moan about it later!

“It’s a good point for us. To come here and keep a clean sheet and take away a point with some key players missing is excellent.”
