The Football League Paper - - FA CUP SEMI-FINAL - By Adam Hipkiss

CARDIFF boss Malky Mackay claims Leon Barnett’s likeness to permanent Bluebirds centre-backs Mark Hudson and Ben Turner may tempt him to extend the Norwich defender’s loan deal.

The 27-year-old has impressed since stepping in for injured captain Hudson, who is still missing with an ankle injury, but the blow is eased by the form of Barnett – who could remain at the Cardiff City Stadium until the end of the season.

“I would love him to stay until the end of the season. We will be talking to Chris Hughton and are hoping Norwich will allow him to stay,” said Mackay. “There is a calmness about him I love. He has a bravery and calmness I also see in Mark Hudson and Ben Turner.

“But Leon is their player and we must show them respect. They were good enough to allow him to join us for 28 days and now I would love to keep him beyond that.

“The boy’s attitude is spot on. He is a quality player and that shows why I have Iain Moody and the recruitment department in place.

“We decided he was the person to bring in when Mark Hudson went out. Leon has a couple of hundred games under his belt as well as promotions and more than any of that he is a good lad.”
