BUXTON SIGNS UP FOR TWO YEARS
JAKE Buxton says it was an easy decision after he extended his contract with a new two-year deal at Derby County.
The 28-year-old defender has become a popular figure at the Pride Park since joining from Burton Albion in 2009, and is currently enjoying what many see as his best season at the club.
And that was enough to persuade boss Nigel Clough to keep Buxton at the club for another two years, with an option of a third also on the table.
Buxton admits that the timing of the deal came as a bit of a surprise to him, but he didn’t have to think too long before signing it.
“I’m happy to put pen to paper, and I see my future here for the next couple of years,” Buxton said.
“It didn’t take a lot of thinking about – I’m happy here and my family is here, so the sooner I could get it done, the better for me.
“The board spoke to me and said they wanted to reward me for my performances this season so I was very grateful.
“Having 14 months left on my deal, I wasn’t really expecting it, but I was happy to get it done.”
