OXFORD UNITED assistant manager Mickey Lewis admits after a disappointing season, the club have fallen well short of the goals they set for themselves.

United had aspirations of making the play-offs in their third season in League Two after promotion from the Conference but they have failed to sustain a genuine promotion challenge.

Lewis said: “I’ve had 32 years as a player and coach and I’d say this was the most frustrating season that I’ve ever known.

“We’re so disappointed because we’ve set such high standards.

“We wanted to be in that top seven and I think if we had taken half the chances we’ve created, I think we would have definitely been in there.”
