In­evitably it was Mon­akana at the heart of ev­ery­thing and the teenager brought a fine save from Gille­spie twenty min­utes from time,. Carlisle staged a late rally but Ab­bott had to set­tle for a point in the end.

“We have had a tough sea­son so it is nice to be fin­ish­ing in good form,” said Ab­bott.“We are not a mil­lion miles away from get­ting a squad to­gether to chal­lenge next sea­son. If we can find one or two qual­ity sign­ings over the sum­mer hopefully we can re­ward the fans who have stuck by us.

“We have now only lost once at home in the last 12 so we seen a big im­prove­ment here in re­cent months. We could have nicked it.”
