header shaved the top of the bar.Walsall went ahead against the run of play on 22 minutes, though, as Febian Brandy fired a fine first-time finish into the bottom corner from just inside the box.
James Chambers then saw a goal ruled out – wrongly, according to Saddlers manager Dean Smith – for offside but after the break it was all Bury.Walsall stopper Sam Johnstone saved well from Shakers skipper David Worrall, while Nicky Ajose poked wide from six yards.

Saddlers boss Dean Smith said: “We’ve had a tremendous season and just fallen short at the end – we’ve drawn too many out of the last five or six but the performances have still been really good, with the exception of today.
“That was our worst performance for a while but we still never looked like getting beaten and should have won it. Their goal was offside. If other results had gone for us, (refs chief) David Allison’s number would have been the first one I dialled after the game.”
