FOR NON-LEAGUE NEXT TERM

Rankine opened the scoring from close range after Stanley’s 56th-minute cross deflected off several bodies in the box.

Seconds earlier Jamie Young stood tall to block a one-on-one effort from Jake Reed, who beat the offside trap on the half-way line and ran the entire Aldershot half unchallenged.

Kieron Cadogan almost doubled Aldershot’s lead but his 76th minute shot from the edge of the area rolled across Chris Lewington’s goal before going wide.

Scott almost gave the visitors a first-half lead with a powerfully hit shot towards the middle of the Aldershot goal only for Young to instinctively block the effort.

Dagenham and Redbridge caretaker manager Wayne Burnett admits his team must deal with being in a relegation fight.

He said:“We didn’t expect to be in this scrap but we now know what’s expected and we have to win next week at home to York, who are still in the relegation fight.

“It’s a fine line, a very small line between winning and losing. Even if we got a draw it probably wasn’t going to be enough, especially with Barnet winning.

“Our goal difference is better than the teams around us but you’ve still got to win football matches. That’s what it’s all about. It’s slightly in our hands, other teams have tough games, and if we win I think we will be safe.”
