The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE RESULTS -

STEWART DRUMMOND - The Morecambe midfielder chooses his favourite XI, made up from players he has played with or against in his football career.

Barry Roche – Morecambe I would have to go for my current goalkeeper at Morecambe. This is purely due to his consistency as a great shot-stopper. He’s just a real rock at the back and that’s reassuring for the whole team.

Ben Herd – Aldershot Town I played with him while at Shrewsbury Town and he can be a real handful from full-back. He displays great energy up and down the pitch and he’s also a really tenacious character, which helps.

Jim Bentley – Retired He’s our current manager at Morecambe so I’ve got to stay in his good books! Jim would be in my team as the towering, intimidating, strong centre-half. He was always the best at winning the ball, and you need someone like that at the back.

Danny Collins – Nottingham Forest I would put Danny alongside Jim as he would be the more footballing type of centre-half, I think you need a bit of balance all across the field. He would have a bit more ability on the ball, and act as a playmaker, helping the midfield.

Kevin McIntyre – Rochdale Kevin’s very similar to Herdy, always exceptionally strong in a tackle – in fact he really loves a tackle. He’s strong up and down the field, something you need from your full-backs. He also whips a great ball in with his left foot.

Ben Davies – Derby County He would be my setpiece specialist. He was always our expert from the dead ball at Shrewsbury and every team needs one. He also got his fair share of goals from midfield which is key to any midfielder’s game. He always chipped in with a few.

Steve Walters – Retired Formerly of Crewe Alexandra, Northwich Victoria and Morecambe, he was always our left-footed playmaker in the centre of midfield in my first spell at Morecambe. He had great vision at picking out passes and setting things up, a class act on and off the pitch.

David Edwards – Wolverhampton Wanderers Dave gets around the pitch really well. He has great energy, both up and down, and you can see the effort he puts in when he plays. He is my box-to-box midfielder. But he’s also got a great deal of talent, as he’s proved by being such a success at Wolves in the Premier League.

Kevin Ellison – Morecambe His goal tally is phenomenal, unrivalled really when compared to other left wingers I’ve played with. I also have to include him because of his ability to line up defenders and just breeze past them like they weren’t there.

Justin Jackson – Retired Justin is another of the guys from my early days, and he was the best finisher I have ever played with without a doubt and should have gone higher. He had great pace over the top and caused many problems for the defence.

Daryl Clare – Retired I have to put Clarey in just for his sheer weight of goals – although he always used to have his Mars bar down his top for when he scored his goals. He always got a fair bit of stick for his rather weighty appearance.
