TURNER: CARDIFF’S SLICE OF HISTORY
CARDIFF City defender Ben Turner has revealed that manager Malky Mackay inspired them to be part of history – rather than watch it pass them by – after sealing promotion to the Premier League.
And while the Bluebirds still have Hull to play next weekend, they sealed the title as league winners for the first time in their history with three games to spare.
But for former Coventry City player Turner, who made 29 appearances this season, the job is not done there, the former Coventry man says he is already preparing for top flight football next year.
“It’s great to be part of what’s happening here,” he said.
“As the gaffer said previously, we had a chance this season to be part of history rather than just watching it happen and I think that’s inspired us.
“We can sense from around the city and the football club that we were on the verge of doing something very special, so it’s brilliant to be a part of it.
“My aim is to kick on and be one of the players the gaffer relies on next season.
“Everybody will want to hit the ground running and stake a claim to be in the team.
“Standards will inevitably go up in our team and in terms of our opposition.”
