Matt Ball had a tame ef­fort saved by Ian McLough­lin af­ter Mar­cus Haber dis­pos­sessed the Dons keeper and found him un­marked sec­onds af­ter Bam­ford’s opener.

Roberts had a shot saved and fired wide two min­utes be­fore half­time af­ter the Dons de­fence strug­gled to clear Dunne’s free-kick.

MK Dons man­ager Karl Robin­son said: “It’s a per­fect way to end, our fans sang their hearts out and we per­formed very well.

“It’s a case of us look­ing for­ward to next sea­son, our fans were mag­nif­i­cent to­day and the play­ers showed how much it meant to them by throw­ing their shirts into the crowd at the end.

“We want to build on this year, we are a very com­pet­i­tive team and we want our good play­ers to stay.

“Where do we go from here? I’ll en­joy the win, have a pint, and on Mon­day start plan­ning for next sea­son.”
