CLOUGH FREES ROBERTS TO MAKE WAY FOR FORSYTH

The Football League Paper - - NEWS -

DERBY boss Nigel Clough has already started shaping his squad for next season – by freeing up space to sign Watford loanee Craig Forsyth.

Long-serving full-back Gareth Roberts has been released after making more than 100 appearances for the Rams. Clough has opted to release the Welsh 34-year old to boost his chances of signing Watford defender Craig Forsyth, who joined on loan in March.

But Clough says the defender could remain at Pride Park as a coach.

“Gareth’s been brilliant to have around the place. I wish he was a year or two younger. But we are trying to sign Craig Forsyth and we have to move on at some point. Physically he is in a great shape, even in pre-season when he came back in July last year, he put a lot of the younger lads to shame.

“He has been a wonderful servant for three years and we will be doing all we can to help secure his future elsewhere.

“He has been helping out with the coaching at the Academy as well, so there is a possibility that he might still be around the place.”
