VYDRA CAN DO IT FOR US INSISTS DOYLEY

The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY-OFFS 2ND LEG PREVIEWS -

VETERAN Watford defender Lloyd Doyley has backed misfiring striker MatejVydra to come good in today’s door-die play-off clash at Vicarage Road.

The Czech hasn’t scored since February and missed a sitter as Leicester snatched a 1-0 first-leg lead at the King Power thanks to David Nugent’s late header. However, Doyley says no-one is blaming the 20year-old.

“That happens,” said Doyley.“But he got himself in that position so it was an opportunity he created. And I don’t think it affected the result.

“Matej is one of the best finishers I have seen but even he can miss. He’s scored 20 goals this season already and got us out of a lot of ditches before so hopefully he can do it on Sunday.

“It would be a great time to break the run he is on, but we have had other strikers that have been scoring like Troy Deeney, who was suspended for the first leg.”

Cult hero Doyley has been atWatford since the age of 11 and was in the side that won promotion to the Premier League under Aidy Boothroyd in 2006. But while that side had big stars, Doyley reckons the class of 2013 are easier on the eye.

“Last time we had a lot of good individuals like Ashley Young, Marlon King, Matthew Spring, Malky Mackay,” he added.

“Now we have a lot of good players, we play more like a team and pass the ball a bit more.”

HOPE: Lloyd Doyley
