JACKETT EXIT HITS PIRATES PLANS
BRISTOL ROVERS boss John Ward claims Kenny Jackett’s departure from Millwall could scupper their hopes of signing keeper Steve Mildenhall permanently.
The 33-year-old played 20 games on loan for the Pirates in the latter half of the season and impressed Ward enough to be considered as a transfer target this summer.
Ward has made an offer, but after Jackett’s decision to leave the Lions on Tuesday he claims they could be heading back to the drawing board.
“Steve is still contracted to Millwall and their manager left this week so whether that has any bearing on the situation, I don’t know,” said Ward.
“We have made a move and we’d like to keep him. He’s aware of that and I’m hopeful that we can resolve something in our favour.”
Ward, however, isn’t confident of making John-Joe O’Toole’s loan spell permanent.
“John-Joe is contracted for another 12 months at Colchester. He’s not a player I can just say, ‘come and sign for us’,” added Ward.
“We’ve had chats with Joe Dunne (Colchester boss) but John-Joe has caught the eye by putting in some excellent displays for us. I’m not the only one trying to lure him out of Colchester.”
