The Football League Paper - - GRAHAM WESTLEY -

ON TUESDAY night, we witnessed a truly remarkable evening at Stevenage. A benefit match was organised in memory of Mitchell Cole. His wife and family were there and it was great to see them bearing up following Mitch’s tragic early death.

Present were a host of Premier League stars as Joe Cole organised hisWest Ham team mates to support the evening in honour of his brother-inl aw.

Andy Carroll got battered by the fans but enjoyed it and answered back with a goal; as, too, did James Collins. We are still looking for the balls that unfortunately left our ground; suspicions are that one caught the plane to Malaga and the other to Nice! There was a great sense of humour, fun and love spread throughout the evening. The atmosphere was brilliant with everybody in the ground playing their part. Mitch brought so much joy to so many people and his friends, family and playing mates were such nice people to meet.

As you mingled in the whole occasion, the sense of what good people his friends and family are really came home to you. It takes a truly great bloke to know and be loved by so many good people. That was Mitchell Cole.

RIP Mitch.x
