AFC WIMBLEDON boss Neal Ardley has paid tribute to Charlton boss Chris Powell after Addicks striker Michael Smith joined the Dons on loan until January.

Smith was sought after by a host of clubs but Powell thought Wimbledon would be the ideal suitors for the 21-year-old, who spent time on loan at Newport last term.

“We have looked at a lot of strikers as the summer progressed but we really believed that Michael ticked all the boxes,” said boss Ardley.

“There had been about seven clubs after him all summer but Chris was really keen for him to come here and he helped us out in every way.”
