ACCRINGTON STANLEY came up smelling of roses after their lunch-time kick off with Portsmouth.

Award-winning company iflorist, based in Lancashire, gave out 125 red roses to mark the 125th anniversary of the Football League.

iflorist ladies Emily Taylor, Francesca Berry and Lauren Anderson gave out the roses to Accrington and Pompey fans before their League Two 2-2 draw.

“We wanted to do our bit to mark the 125th anniversary of the League and what better way than saying it with roses at one of the founder members of the Football League at Accrington?” said iflorist managing director David Price.

Meanwhile, Accrington turnstile operator June Jordan received a bunch of roses to mark her 50th wedding anniversary to husband, lifelong Stanley fan Barry.

June has worked on the away turnstile for many years – and was working yesterday on her anniversary – and was thrilled when iflorist sneaked up and gave her a handmade bouquet.

“I am stunned – and a bit shocked to be honest, I never expected it,” said June.“We got married in 1963 in Accrington and have been happy ever since!”
