LEWIS Alessandra should be a regular goal threat in League Two says Plymouth manager John Sheridan, who was stunned by his midweek rocket.

Alessandra signed from Morecambe in the summer having scored seven times in 82 games for the Shrimps.

The 24-year-old struck just four times last season but found the net twice in one game on Tuesday, equalising twice in the 3-2 League Cup defeat to Birmingham.

The first was a stunning 25-yard strike and Sheridan believes there is no excuse for Alessandra not to be doing it on a regular basis.

“I know he can do that and I would like him to try to score a few goals for us this season because I know he has it in his locker,” he said.

“Ability-wise, I thought he was outstanding on Tuesday night. He has got two great goals and it's a shame they weren’t really worth anything at the end.

“I have never seen him score a goal like that, but I don’t think I have seen many players score a goal like that.

“I haven’t seen many better goals while I have been in football. I thought he was excellent on the night.

“He has got great feet. Hopefully, it will give him confidence because I know he can score goals.”
